Carmignac Gestion contemporary art foundation
The Carmignac Gestion contemporary art foundation has unearthed an entire generation of artists.
Since the company was founded in 1989, the chairman of Carmignac Gestion, Mr Edouard Carmignac, has been acquiring works by emerging artists from around the globe.
The offices at Place Vendôme gradually expanded and a corporate foundation was set up in 2000. In keeping with the company’s dynamic policy vis-à-vis its employees and regularly enhanced with new acquisitions, this collection of contemporary art elicits remarks, comments and assessments appropriated by the company’s employees over time.
Essentially composed of paintings, sculptures and photographs, the collection has become the foundation stone of a genuine policy of patronage of charitable organisations and contemporary art as well as photojournalism via the creation of an award in 2009.
The collection includes pieces by artists of all ages and nationalities: 150 major works by the biggest names of the twentieth century, such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gehrard Richter, Roy Lichtenstein and Albert Oehlen, to name but a few.
Other exceptional up-and-coming artists provide an overall view of the international scene.
Daring and inspired, this contemporary art collection stimulates creativity and boosts conviviality in the company.
Multicultural and above all innovative, like the management company itself, the collection reflects the investments underpinning the company. Carmignac Gestion’s intention is to involve its employees. Indeed, there is a genuine sense of connection between the works on display in the offices and the employees themselves.
Building a collection also implies exploring a new world and drawing on new sources of inspiration.
As the aim is not to make a profit, the works are never resold.
Perhaps one day, beyond the confines of Paris’ magnificent Place Vendôme, the works in the Carmignac Gestion collection will be able to be loaned and admired by the public.
The calling of a patron of the arts is not so much to accumulate as to set the wheels in motion so as to offer a shared heritage to the community as a whole.
An innovative and attractive site dedicated exclusively to the collection will go online in the near future.
